Sega sends Game Cube gamers back to ancient Greece with SPARTAN: TOTAL WARRIOR. This historical action adventure has players traveling thought Europe while battling the Roman Empire in the name of Sparta. The game follows a nameless Spartan and his band of computer-controlled allies as they battle Rome. The Spartan has the favor of Ares, the God of War, which gives Sparta an edge. However, Rome controls magic of its own, so players can expect to find the undead and other fantasy creatures set against them. As the Spartan, players have several different attacks at their disposal. His main weapon is a sword with which he can do slashing attacks. As he attacks, the rage meter at the top of the screen fills, and when its full, players can unleash a powerful rage attack that will send enemies flying. There are a number of different weapons scattered throughout the game, including dual blades, spears, hammers, and bows. Each weapon and shield in the game has its own unique rage attack. The Medusa shield, for example, turns enemies to stone temporarily, while Athenas sword is charged with electricity. The game isnt all about hacking and slashing, however. Many of the mission goals involve protecting other characters, reaching certain points, or finding items. One level, for example, involves protecting Archimedes as he gives a speech.
